  2009-08-13 Kraakers Next Single

Jalapeno's genial dutchmen show their aggressive side with the new single from their Plastic People album "Ain't Gonna Take It No More". A dark glitchy track representative of their big room DJ sets this has always been a crowd favourite.

Having kicked the arse out of the festival season the boys have retired to their new studio in Leiden to plot their third album.
While in the studio the boys have knocked up a remix at the personal request of Maxwell (whose new album has hit # 1 in the US). They also have a hot new mix for brothers in the struggle All Good Funk Alliance in the pipeline so expect plenty more K&S dancefloor business before the new album

  2009-06-22 J-Funk Update

Smoove & Turrell have taken 2009 by storm with live performances on Radio 2, Radio 4 and 6 Music. Their vintage blend of funk and soul has won them an army of new fans and festival gigs at Glastronbury, Big Chill and Kendal Calling await.
The video for their next single Beggarman has already been shot with Crazy P and Basement Freaks drafted in for the remix.

Dr Rubberfunk has been in the studio completing his third album. Featuring collaborations with Roachford, John Turrell and Sitzka it is a superb slice of jazz, soul and funk serveed up in a Rubberfunk salad. Check his Sunset Breakup EP for an advance taster.

Soopasoul has turned his back on the rave tunes that made him famous as Direkt, E-Lustrious and Rollin Gear in the 90's to return to his true love - the funk. Lauded by critics as diverse as Ashley Beedle, Danny Krivit and Snowboy his album Twin Stix needs to be seriously checked. For all you 45 heads out there his next single, Do Me Wrong, will be right up your street.

Finally the J Funk Superstars Kraak & Smaak are preparing to release the last single from their Plastic People album. With over 50,000 downloads making previous single Squeeze Me a bona fide hit - they have enlisted hot house mixer Bart B-More to do some damage on Ain't Gonna Take It No More.

Described as a "must see" live band by IDJ and supported by everyone from Pete Tong to Kanye West, Kraak & Smaak have made a serious name for themselves as a headline festival band. Last year saw them rock it at Glastonbury, Big Chill, Lovebox and Bloom. This is an amazing chance to see the Dutch funkers play an intimate venue before their Saturday gig in Trafalgar Square. Expect electronic funk, soul and breakbeat from the dutch beatmasters.

Smoove & Turrell will be launching their new album Antique Soul with their first London gig. Their new single "You Don't Know" has just been playlisted by 6Music while their previous single was record of the week on Radio 2 as well as being a massive underground hit on the northern soul scene.

It's been a big year for Kraak & Smaak. They've had celebrity fans from Perez Hilton to Kanye West and have just returned from a sellout US tour.

They have performed live on the Jimmy Kimmel show (one of the biggest TV shows in the US) and in Holland had a bona fide pop hit with Squeeze Me. Squeeze me is also all over US TV in a really cool ad for download service Rhapsody. Next year sees a re-release of Squeeze Me with hot new mixes - check the K&S site in January for details.

2008-09-10 Jalapeno Sound System going strong

Jalapeno Sound System rocked it on the Isle of Wight at Bestival during the weekend just gone. As the festival season draws to a close Bestival is still a firm favourite amongst the Jalapeno crew. It had to happen sooner or later and this year it did. Rain that is. But never have we seen a happier bunch of sodden ravers and big thanks to everyone who packed out the Hidden Disco for Jalapeno sound system especially the two sailors at the front.

This weekend Jalapeno Sound System returns to its monthly residency at The Big Chill House with special guest Ben Westbeech - Britain's brightest new soul talent. It's gonna be raw.

2008-09-10 Kraak & Smaak up for Best Band at MTV Europe

Kraak & Smaak nominated for Best Band at MTV European Music awards

OK it was best Dutch band but we're still really proud. The MTV European Music Awards take place in Liverpool on 6 November 08. The winner of each European territory's best band will go head to head at the event for the best European band gong. Sweet.

Hosting the digital side of the EMA's will be Perez Hilton - already a massive fan of the band after breaking the video for Squeeze Me on his website. See his blog here

http://perezhilton.com/2008-04-10-watch-listen-to-this-the-jam

2008-05-30 The summer is shaping up nicely for Kraak & Smaak

After winning a multitude of new fans for their single Squeeze Me featuring the Bristol hitman Ben Westbeech, Kraak & Smaak are now gearing up towards the release of their second single Plastic People. Remixes are coming from rising UK house stars Prok & Fitch, Jalapeno favourites All Good Funk Alliance and deep house dude Deetron (whose i Cling track was a big hit on Gilles Pertersons recent Defected mix CD).

The video for the bands previous single Squeeze Me is being taken seriously as a piece of art. It has been shown at several Short Film Festivals to great acclaim including the upcoming Edinburgh Film Festival and is being used on the DVD of the upcoming Lions Awards at Cannes. You can see the video here http://www.youtube.com/kraakandsmaak

As they plan their second single the band are preparing for a hot summer of live dates and festival appearances. In the UK they have been added to the lineup of Groove Armada's Lovebox festival in London and also The Big Chill. This is in addition to their already confirmed gigs at the world famous Glastonbury Festival and Bloom (winner of numerous best boutique festival awards). In Europe they are playing Sziget, 10 Days Off, and numerous other hot and happening festivals. They were featured in a recent issue of DJ magazine as a must see band to watch at this years festivals.

The boys are currently hyped up and in the studio working on a remix for Sam Sparro's next single. Having conquered the world with his debut release Black & Gold, Sam Sparro is on a massive high and so the boys are delighted he turned to Kraak & Smaak for a remix on his follow up single.

Around the world the band have just signed a deal for Japan and South America and are in final negotiations with a leading US label to release their album. In The Netherlands the boys are having a certified hit with Squeeze Me getting heavy rotation on radio and the album and single sticking in the Top 10 of their national charts.

If you haven't heard the album you can check it out here

The first single Squeeze Me has been hammered by Radio 1 with Pete Tong / Annie Mac / Annie Nightingale / Zane Lowe / Trevor Nelson all getting the K&S vibe. Big respect to Ben Westbeech for providing one of the vocals of the year and shout out to A Skillz whose remix proved to be the cream of the crop - and a very good crop it was.

  2008-01-04 Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year to all our brothers and sisters in the struggle

It's good to be here. 08 looks set to be one of the most exciting years in Jalapeno history with the bomb droppers Kraak & Smaak gearing up for their second album, Jalapeno debut albums on the way from Dr Rubberfunk and Danny Soopasoul, an EP from our brothers at All Good Funk Alliance (alongside their boy Neighbour from Canada) and more retro pop stylings from the kings of the funk break Skeewiff. We've also got a debut EP from Flash Callahan, our man north of the border and the last release from IKON's much loved second album.

Some sad news as well. Farewell to our European distributors Soul Seduction. Good guys to a man they just couldn't turn a profit and closed their doors in December. Thanks for all the hard work guys and respect to all the people out there who are still buying music and keeping labels like us alive.

If you want to buy Jalapeno releases in a physical format (vinyl & CD's) you can pick it up from our distributors website www.kudosrecords.co.uk We will shortly be launching a webstore on this site to sell MP3's of all our releases directly but in the meantime beatport, DJ Download, itunes and all the usual suspects are holding it down for us.

So let's all remember why we're doing this. The Music. Buy it if you can, download it if you can't but let's all feel the funk and make it happen in 08.

  2007-10-18 The J-Funk cometh

Promos are going out this week for Jalapeno Funk Vol.1

This album is a collection of funk weapons from around the world featuring the cream of the Jalapeno roster plus tracks from international friends like All Good Funk Alliance from the US, Flow Dynamics in Australia (via the ever reliable Freestyle Records) and Pulver Records in Germany. There are two (count them) exclusive new tracks from Kraak & Smaak plus a bonus CD mixed by Jalapeno Sound System resident Trevor Mac.

"There's somethin' happenin' here what it is ain't exactly clear" so the song goes but it's becoming clearer. A network of labels around the world are pushing an organic funked up sound that references the classics from Stax and Motown through to p-funk with the beats to rock a main room floor but light years away from the "Put Your Hands Up for shit electro records" sound that's dominating the mainstream clubs. "It ain't where you're from it's where you're at" the saying goes. True say so long as where you're from ain't a car park rave in essex where they play a load of honky techno. Feel the soul brothers.

Dr Rubberfunk.

Speaking of soul. we welcome on board the good ship Jalapeno our brother in the struggle Dr Rubberfunk. After two massively well received albums on his own GPS label he has decided that he wants to be part of the j-funk revolution. Dropping funk flavours in a righteous b-boy style we wait with open ears for the first prescription from the doctor.

Soopasoul.

Danny Hybrid the man behind Soopasoul is offering up a free 320 Mp3 download of his track wild mad beat. All the funk warriors out there check www.soopasoul.com to get yours. Meanwhile his first ep Swing Down is receiving a warm reception. Check his contribution to the album Jalapeno Funk Vol. 1 with Soopasoul theme and future anthem Brand Nu being particular highlights.

Don't forget to check out our eBay shop for pre release records and J-funk classics.

  2007-09-14 Swing Down Ep - Soopasoul's debut release !!!!

Swing Down is the first release from jalapeno funk supremos Soopasoul.

Danny Hybrid the man behind the project is on a mission to bring the funk back to the masses. Swing Down is voiced by Mississippi sister Nikeya Booker. She started working with Danny while her husband Andre was serving in the US air force and posted to England. Andre and Danny had consecutive radio shows on the local station and the hook up was complete. The voice of several tracks on the forthcoming Soopasoul album she adds a touch of Mississippi soul to Danny’s old but nu rare groove leanings.

Twin Stix is a percussion funk workout with the man himself banging everything he can lay his hands on to build the track to a floor burning funked up peak.

Lookin’ For Freddie drops the tempo for a melodic downbeat instrumental workout that oozes blues and funk. Showcasing the classy horn section put together by Danny at his Newquay studio this slice of timeless funk shows what the Soopasoul blueprint for global funk domination is all about.

2007-07-18 New Additions to the Family

Jalapeno Records are proud to announce two new signings to the label.

Soopasoul aka Danny Hibrid is the first new album signing of 2007. After a killer year for Kraak & Smaak, Skeewiff and IKON we are proud to bring into the Jalapeno family one of the hottest funk producers in the UK. Having released a couple of unmissable 12's on his Newquay based Nu-Funk label Danny has signed an album deal with Jalapeno. Expect some old but nu rare groove action to be hitting your ears in the near future.

And in a flurry of signing we are also proud to have on board a 12" project from Sneaky Fox (the alias of Pulver Records Flo Pflueger with a collaborative remix from K'Bonus) We've always had a lot of love and massive respect for the Pulver boys from Germany so to have one the theirs coming out as one of ours is a real treat. Due for release at the beginning of September DJ's can expect this to hit their mailboxes shortly.

  2007-05-31 Jalapeno 50th release

The Lost Masters EP

Limited Edition collectors picture disc.

Fifty ? really ? so soon ? Wow !
Who would have thought we would make it to fifty releases ? And that’s not even counting our Illegal Beats label or the booty action. Fifty proper releases. well well well.
OK then - better dust down the safari suit, pop another horse tranquilizer and throw a party then. Nurse - a bedbath please I’m hitting the town. Have the driver hose down the motor and put in my usual order with Madame Fifi.
Where are we going ? – to The Cross of course scene of such disrepute over the years - that delightful Seb Fontaine is throwing his monthly TYPE party and we shall be tickling the phonograms in the back room. They do still use phonograms don’t they ? and then The Westbury - that delightful new drinking establishment in salubrious Kilburn.
I suppose we’d better put out some kind of record to mark the occasion.
I’ve got it - What about all the ones we left behind ? The ones the lawyers made us put on hold, the ones that were subject to litigation, the ones that were lost when the pressing plant in France burnt down.
All of those lovely tunes gathered together on one law busting ep. It doesn’t matter who owns the rights, it’s only coming out on vinyl and nobody has the technology to play that any more. Free the Jalapeno four !
So here it is – the once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of record collecting history. Buy one before it’s injuncted. Big up to Young MC for hanging out in our old studio in Holloway giving it “ain’t no party like a skeewiff party “ on Bump Bump. You the man.
Respect to all the other artists who made up the fifty.

You can now get the new single from IKON with mixes from Kid Massive, Jody Wisternoff, Ed Royal & Enne and the ever funky Torpedo Boyz.

“Signs” is the first single release from the second IKON album.

It’s been a couple of years since releasing the last single off their debut album. The band have spent the time in-between working in the studio crafting real songs recorded on real instruments to create a breathtaking follow up album.

IKON is a collective of musicians based around the production talents of Elliot Ireland, Alex Rizzo and Trevor Mac. “It’s always been about taking a flavour from the myriad of people we work with, and making the different elements work as an album” says Elliot Ireland “there are some new faces this time around as well as a welcome return for some of our friends. There’s a bit more of a focus for this album as it was written in the space of about a year whereas the last album spanned material we’d been writing for the previous five years. We’re really happy with the sound.”

Remixes on the single take a couple of different routes. On the house tip there are mixes from Kid Massive who drops a deep tribal house mix and Jody Wisternoff who ups the energy with a pumping club mix. For the Jalapeno funk faithful there are mixes from Austrians Ed Royal & Enne who deliver a downtempo horn rich funker and Germany’s Torpoedo Boyz who drop an energetic funk breaks mix that uses the hook from the original with hot new instrumentation. And of course there’s the original. Expect to hear this at after-parties, chill-outs and beach bars all year long.

This single is available on 12" vinyl from all good independent record stores such as Juno Records - http://www.juno.co.uk/breaks-electro/back-cat/letter-i/

  2007-01-04 New Year

Happy New Year to everyone from Jalapeno Records.
We're back in the office and revved up for 2007. It's going to be an exciting year with the second album from chill-funk downbeat kings IKON set to blow up as well as new material from the retro-lounge swingsetters SKEEWIFF. Kraak & Smaak continue their bid for world domination by following a punishing tour schedule that makes their rock counterparts look like wusses. They are playing a key date at the Norderslag Festival on Jan 11th and closing the Eurosonic Festival on Jan 13th. Their gig will be broadcast across Europe on the Eurosonic network. You can also expect a second album from those boys towards the end of the year. Kid Creme is perfecting tracks for a renewed attack on the national charts and no doubt there will be a whole host of new and exciting music that we pick up along the way.

Keep checking back for news of releases and special downloads and giveaways.

For those of you on the business tip we have new physical distribution in place following the demise of our old distributor Intergroove. Good luck to Andy & Clive and all the boys and girls who worked at Intergroove. Details will be posted shortly on the contacts page but basically we are working with Kudos Distribution (UK / France / Japan / Spain / S Africa) Soul Seduction Distribution (GAS / Italy / Benelux / Eastern Europe and various other territories) Inertia (Australia & NZ) and Groove for the USA.

Have a great 2007
Trevor, Sarah, Elliot & Alex

2006-09-04 Warren Clarke remixes Kraak & Smaak

Whoa - Summers nearly over – Carnival is done – the only festival left on the horizon is Bestival and so one of the sweetest summer tunes gets a darker tougher re-rub from the king of the 4/4 beat Warren Clarke.
Stripping out the sweet pads and tinkling Rhodes and replacing them with a menacing b-line Warren shakes the floor with the mixes that should see this tune clean up the end of the summer season. Delivering a main version that makes the most of Dez’s vocal and a more tribal dub this opens the track up to those of the dance music fraternity who like things a little tougher.

Keep Me Home has already had great success in it’s original, Soul of Man and 4 Hero mixes. It’s been championed by Annie Mac and The Blue Room on Radio 1 and the quirky animated video has received more than 100 plays on MTV in the UK.

It is the third single from their incredible debut album Boogie Angst which is being re-released on October 2nd with a bonus disc of remixes and extra material.

The band are back in the UK to support the release with a headline live show at Ali B’s Air Night in London and a DJ set at Bestival. In their native Holland they are a massive live act and will be playing a special Amsterdam Dance Event show at the legendary Melkweg venue in Amsterdam on October 21st

  2006-08-15 Keep Me Home

Those favourite Dutch Funkateers are back again with a new single called 'Keep Me Home' with remixes from 4 Hero and Soul OF Man.

Keep Me Home is the third single to be taken from Kraak & Smaak’s hotly tipped debut album Boogie Angst.

This single has been heavily supported in the UK by Annie Mac(Radio 1) the Blue Room(Radio 1) Kiss 100 and XFM to name a few, resulting in it entering both the Music Week Coolcuts and DMC Buzz charts.

They have spent the months since their last release touring their album around Europe and the US (where PIAS and Quango respectively have signed them up) and are returning to the UK for a Bestival gig and a short UK tour in September. MTV have already been playing the quirky animated video for the single which you can check out on our Jalapeno MYSPACE page - www.myspace.com/jalapenorecords.

Keep me Home is a beautiful summer record in it’s original form but when given the re-rub by 4 Hero it goes to whole new level with lush warm pads underpinning the vocal and 4 Hero’s trademark beats rocking the whole show. Soul of Man turn it into a funky club banger opening the track up to a whole new audience.

2006-07-25 Skeewiff - Wet your Beak EP

Drinking. It’s big and it’s clever. And as excuses go for why you got so drunk last night they don’t come better than I heard a dead piano man from the nineteen twenties sampled in a skeewiff record and he told me to Keep on Drinking day and night. So I did.

Wet your beak, the title track from this EP gives just that advice underpinning said piano man’s drunken ravings with a fat breakbeat in true Skeewiff style.

Light the Fuse is a retro-funk flyer with hot horns and a tight bass and could easily be the theme tune to the best 70s cop show never made.

Smash and Grab is a lounge-hop number best listened to while shaking a cocktail round a pool wearing a safari suit and big hair.

Lost due to Incompetence is a heavy number with Skeewiff supplying funky drummer beats under some electric guitar acrobatics.

Wet your Beak is taken from Skeewiff’s third album Private Funktion.

It is Julys TOP TUNE in I-DJs guest reveiw section - by lab-4.
“ This is my favourite record of the day. Each tune invokes that James Bon-y/Michael Caine-ish spy film. Its all really well done and solidly put together. Its totally unexpected and thoroughly enjoyable. Can I have this cd please mate" 5 STARS

DMC Update
"Skeewiff pretty much always guarantee getting the party rocking, and the “Wet Your Break EP” certainly doesn’t disappoint...If Quentin Tarantino needed an in-house band…" ****

2006-03-21 Kid Creme back with with a BANG!!!!

Kid Creme is back on Illegal Beats with a brand new track -The Game feat. Bashiyra.

With only a few copies in circulation it has already been championed by Pete Tong on Radio 1 and slides to a cool #1 in this week's Buzz chart (DMC Update). Which pretty much says it all about how good this track is.

For a man with a name as one of the hottest producers in dance music this guy really does not play the numbers game. He has turned down a small fortune in remix work (the last remix he accepted was in 2004) and although he has been working diligently in his studio this is the first track he has chosen to release since 04’s Doing My Own Thing.

His productions up to this point have had a common theme, the Kid Crème bassline. It was there in all his key productions and is a style which has become much imitated. At a time when loads of funky house producers are turning out tunes that sound like a Kid Crème record, Kid Crème delivers a tune that in both its mixes sounds like nothing else around.

Anyone who has seen Kid Crème’s tearing headline DJ sets with partner in crime Junior Jack will know that both have been favouring a tougher vibe than some of their previous productions would suggest. This is evident in Kid’s Voodoo Mix which contrasts the soulful vocals of hot new discovery Bashiyra against raw drum patterns and dark menacing electronic bass creating a club killer that fits perfectly in the darker part of his DJ sets.

Kid’s piano mix provides the antidote to the darker vibe of the voodoo mix with an ultra classy piano workout. It’s an epic mix that makes sparing use of the vocals to lift the track when needed and takes clubs on a sublime ten minute journey.

You can hear audio snippits of all the mixes by clicking on the release on the right.

Watch this one, its gonna be big....
