Why do you disrespecta your mama playing this louda music and staying out-a late like-a the alleycat. I always thought you were gonna be a priest”.
Mama may have wanted the priesthood but all the boys who contributed their Italian vibes to this record chose the clubs of Rimini, Roma and Milano as their church.
Released in April 2003 Italian style is the cream of the Italian producers to be found on the Holloway Rd. (the spiritual meeting place for Italians in London). Their efforts were gathered together by Jalapeno Records for a sho’ nuff funky Eye -Tie showdown.
Italian Style is a compilation of new and unreleased tracks from the Jalapeno Records and Illegal Beats stable. The album includes tracks from Nic Scaravilli (Kid Crème / Niquid) Cricco Castelli and Skeewiff producers Alex Rizzo and Elliot Ireland.
Vol 1 (of 3) showcases the production talents of Skeewiff producer Alex Rizzo and treats us to some funky updates of classic tracks.
A1 is a tasteful update of the classic record Brothers on the Slide. Treated with care the original has been made dancefloor friendly with the addition of some crisp beats and percussion
A2 is the latin floorshaker Copa Italiano. Under his Joey Polpette guise – Alex delivers a pure sunshine moment.
B1 is a classy house update of the Gil Scott Heron classic The Bottle – with Maysa from Incognito on vocals.
B2 is a re-working of the sublime Sunshine Day by Osibisa. Not one of the current crowd of booty bodgers – Alex tracked down the original
Vol 2 (of 3) showcases the production talents of Skeewiff producer Elliot Ireland in his more house oriented Elio Isola guise aided and abetted by deep house don Ski Oakenful.
A1 is a funky house update of the 80’s classic 24/7 Love by Irini
A2 showcases the talents of Jalapeno chum Ski Oakenful with the deep and brooding Slo - Fix
B1 sees Elio head off into Naked Music territory with the deep and soulful Happy – vocalled by Kid Crème and Incognito collaborator Charlise.
B2 is the beautiful and introspective Blu – highlighting the deeper side of Illegal Beats
Vol 3 (of 3) is the handiwork of Nic Scaravilli in his Niquid guise.
Nic has been flying high in the charts as Kid Crème with his Down & Under and Hypnotising releases. Following a successful EP on Defected as Niquid – he now contributes 3 tracks to the Italian Style compilation under the same guise showcasing both his house and his downtempo breaks sound.
A1 is the beautiful house track Italian Summer. A sure fire summer classic with Jazzy chords funk’d up bass and the trademark Kid Crème ultra tight percussion.
B1 shows the Kid dropping fat funk breaks in the downtempo Funk Jam. It is what it says.
B2 sees the man in full on Jazz mode with Histoire Phallique – with a spoken word vocal over a fat jazz break – nice.
Italian Style IS released as a series of 3 x 12”, and a 12" Album Sampler as well as a CD collecting together the cream of the Italian underground.
