In advance of their sixth album, BBC 6 Music A Listers The Allergies are back to serve up that vintage soul-sampling swagger once more.
‘Sometimes I Wonder’ is a standout track in the duo’s flawless run of recent releases and this time they are heading down a blues boulevard with the first of four tracks from their Reconcile EP, adding their trademark modern production polish to dusty forgotten vinyl loops.
This cinematic, drum-thumping super groover relights the fire under some vintage rhythm ’n’ blues vocals and horn-laded funk beats. Resulting in a driving, emotionally-charged single, full of expertly chopped breaks, wistful Wurlitzer grooves, and some seriously soaring strings to close it out.
All in, it’s another masterclass in classy beat making from the Bristol-based DJ and production duo.
