Flevans has been on a strong upward trajectory since his 2019 breakout album ‘Part Time Millionaire’ announced his arrival on Jalapeno Records from previous home Tru-Thoughts.
Heavy support from UK national radio helped the rise, with continued spins from Zoe Ball, Trevor Nelson, Don Letts, Craig Charles and Rylan Clarke Neal but as always with Flevans the main driver came from an army of DJ’s and fans who supported him in the clubs.
Flevans’ last LP ‘Accumulate’ was released during the first lockdown in 2020, and as there was no opportunity to tour the record, the live act was shelved and Flevans jumped straight back into the studio to focus on producing and developing music with heavier disco / club sensibilities.
His ‘I’m over Here EP’ was released late last year on Jalapeno with support from the likes of Purple Disco Machine, Art of Tones, Yam Who and Roger Sanchez - this was quickly followed up by another release on Kraak & Smaak’s uber-cool Boogie Angst label before the follow up on Jalapeno arrived.
Title track ‘Starting Points’ is a killer combination of disco and funk, a heady combination of vintage sounds and modern production - chopped vocal samples, driving basslines and 4 to the floor drums are all tied together with Flevans’ trademark live instrumentation.
‘Biznizz’ grabs your attention from the word go with growly vocal samples, driving drums and huge synth stabs. It’s a deep and heavy groove that builds relentlessly and demands to be dropped to a full dance floor, sometime soon!
‘I Wanted You to Stay’ takes the foot off the gas a little, with a deeper, house leaning groove, busy synths and another hooky vocal sample building to an orchestral finale to close things out!
