Smoove & Turrell are a one of a kind band from the North East of England fusing soul, electronica and funk with socially conscious lyricism and incredible songcraft.
Geno’s Discotheque is the latest highlight from Smoove & Turrell’s 2023 Red Ellen album to be given the remix treatment.
The song is a tribute to all the incredible European venues the band played and the people they met as standard on hazy weekend nights before the self harm of 2016’s referendum put an end to free movement and the excitement and joy of the band taking their music to the continent.
The band personally requested Aroop Roy to take on the song for a remix, being big fans of his work and regularly spinning his tracks on their Northern Coal Experience radio show.
Taking guitarist Lloyd Wright’s superbly understated guitar and Neil Harland’s mesmerizing bass from the original as well as Turrell’s bittersweet vocal, Aroop Roy applies a deft touch on the remix showing why his talents are so in demand.
Aroop's eclectic productions have become a mainstay for DJs across scenes and generations, with Gilles Peterson calling him 'a brilliant producer, who never fails'.
In 2023, Aroop enjoyed huge momentum, causing wild scenes with his sets at Fabric, Printworks, Defected Croatia, Hi Ibiza and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide and We Out Here festivals and 2024 looks likely to continue the trajectory.
